What Makes Us Unique?
Shiva’s Center is a not-for-profit human and animal welfare organization that aims to provide the medical, psychological and educational services not currently available in Santa Barbara County. Most people seek medical care for their companion animals because they are as dedicated to their pet’s well-being as they are to the well-being of the human members of their family. Shiva’s Center sustains this value system by recognizing the significance of the Human-Animal Bond and offering pet loss counseling, a safe haven for lost and/or injured animals, educational resources relevant to the emotional needs of humans and their animal companions, and veterinary training programs aimed at sustaining and promoting veterinary specialty medical services within our County.
Shiva’s Center will take a leadership role in the community by promoting bond-centered practices and philosophies. We seek to honor our animal friends by providing medical and counseling services to animals and humans alike.
Our Vision is that the emotional and medical needs inherent in the Human-Animal Bond will be more effectively met within the Santa Barbara community.
Shiva’s Center Goals:
To make pet loss and grief counseling services available, free of charge, to anyone in our community who is struggling with the loss (or anticipated loss) of their companion animal. Free Grief Counseling groups are an important support system for those grieving the loss of animal companionship and celebrating the gift of animals in their lives.- To provide safe, emergency housing and medical services to lost, abandoned and/or injured domestic and wild animals within Santa Barbara County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- To educate the veterinary medical community as well as the community at large about the Human-Animal Bond.
- To promote specialty medical veterinary residency training programs to ensure that state-of-the-art medical care remains available for animals within the Santa Barbara community.
